Penang Bridge

Once the longest bridge in South-east Asia when opened in 1985, the bridge still looks magnificient even by today's standards. At a total length of 13.5km, the bridge connects mainland Penang with Penang island. Tens of thousands of commuters travel across it daily. Unfortunately, you cannot stop in the middle of the bridge unless it is an emergency. The bridge is opened 24 hours daily, and is only closed once a year for the Penang Bridge International Marathon. The bridge is tolled only when travelling from the mainland to the island. It costs RM7.00 for passenger cars and RM1.40 for motorcycles.
